On April 19, 2023 the Group Against Smog and Pollution (GASP) will be conducting a free virtual workshop intended for local governments to discuss how municipalities can impact air quality at the local level. The seminar will include a quick refresher on all things air quality, as well as discussions regarding available grants, model ordinances, partnerships, and other resources available to interested local governments. The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission (SPC) is hosting an Electric Fleet Exposition on May 24, 2023 at the UPMC Events Center (6001 University Blvd, Moon Twp, PA 15108). This free event will be a great opportunity for municipal officials to see the latest electric vehicle (EV) models available for their local government fleets, hear about funding opportunities and best practices for transitioning to an electric fleet, and engage with experienced vendors concerning fleet charging. While there is no cost to attend, registration is required because space is limited. Interested participants are encouraged to register early by visiting here.

PennDOT and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission (SPC) are seeking public input for its 2025 12-year Transportation Program Update. Interested parties are encouraged to share their transportation priorities, including specific infrastructure improvements for our region (i.e. Route 65). the survey may be completed digitally by visiting here or by completing a paper version here.
Since 1965, the Sewickley Civic Garden Council’s May Mart has welcomed in spring with a family-friendly street fair and activities to support gardening and the environment. Vendors and garden clubs will offer flowers, plants/native plants, herbs, gardening items, food, gifts, and products to enhance our region's gardens, lives and communities. A tree adoption event hosted by Tree Pittsburgh will coincide with the event. Please note, the event has SOLD OUT. However, Tree Pittsburgh may have additional trees for adoption if they are not picked up by those who registered for the event. The adoption event is scheduled for May 13th beginning at 9:00 a.m. and will conclude at 11:00 a.m. Interested participants may view other spring tree adoption events here.

Residents within QVCOG member communities highlighted below may now recycle glass within the curbside collection program. This change implemented by Waste Management (WM) is effective immediately. Please refer to the attached flyer for further guidance regarding WM's single stream recycling program. As a reminder, QVCOG residents may still utilize the two glass recycling dumpsters located in Sewickley and Avalon Borough.

Newly generated maps focusing on road ownership and legislative boundaries will be demonstrated. The workshop will take place at the Sewickley Public Library (500 Thorn Street, Sewickley, PA 15143). The Pennsylvania Building Officials Conference (PENNBOC) is offering a training course focused on property maintenance and housing fundamentals on Thursday, February 2nd. The full-day training event will take place at the Hampton Township Community Center, 3101 McCully Road Allison Park, PA 15101. The training will include a panel of experienced municipal solicitors who will present the ins and outs of prosecuting ordinance violations, responding to complaints, gathering evidence, issuing citations or notice of violations; appearing before the Magisterial District Court and Court of Common Pleas; and, addressing other blight-fighting tools, such as conservatorship, sheriff’s sales, and tenant/rental registration ordinances. ![]() Beginning January 9th applications will be accepted for the 2023 Local Government Academy Municipal Intern Program. Applications are due February 15, 2023. Interested parties may review past project by clicking here. Executive Director Conners has experience as both an intern and supervisor within this Program and would be happy to assist any member community with their project proposal. The Academy anticipates awarding 10 host sites within Allegheny County for the 2023 cycle. Per the program’s guidelines, appropriate projects include, but are not limited to, financial management, human resources, asset mapping, development of geographic information systems, comprehensive planning, economic development, capital improvement planning, intergovernmental cooperation, code enforcement, community engagement, and social media campaigns. ![]()
