Friends of the Riverfront is developing an updated strategic plan. As part of this process, the board and staff leaders at the organization would like to hear the opinions of municipal partners across Allegheny County. Participation, support, and partnership is critical to the planning process and will help the organization select informed strategic goals.
On June 23rd at the Avalon Community Park the QVCOG hosted a celebration and recognition event for Ms. Janet Wenger who after 5 years of service with the COG is set to retire and begin the next journeys in her life. While serving the COG's 15 member communities Janet embodied the qualities of teamwork and optimism always bringing joy into the office. The QCOG would like to thank Janet for her efforts and commitment to intergovernmental collaboration.

QUAKER VALLEY COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS REQUEST FOR BIDS For the collection, disposal, and processing of municipal solid waste, residential solid waste, recyclable materials, household hazardous waste, and electronic waste on behalf of the participating member municipalities, as follows: · Aleppo Township · Avalon Borough · Bellevue Borough · Ben Avon Borough · Edgeworth Borough · Emsworth Borough · Glen Osborne Borough · Glenfield Borough · Kilbuck Township · Leet Township · Sewickley Borough Sealed bids are invited and will be received by the Quaker Valley Council of Governments on behalf of the above referenced municipalities for collection, disposal, and processing of municipal solid waste, recyclable materials, household hazardous waste, and electronic waste for a five (5) year term beginning January 1, 2022 and ending December 31, 2026. The Quaker Valley Council of Governments will furnish copies of the Bid Packet to prospective bidders which may be obtained by visiting qvcog.org or by emailing [email protected]. Bids must be made on the provided bid forms and in accordance with instructions to bidders furnished by the Quaker Valley Council of Governments. Failure to do so will disqualify the bid. A mandatory pre-bid meeting will be held on July 2, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. at the Kilbuck Township Building (343 Eicher Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237). All interested bidders are mandated to attend. One original and two copies of the Bid and attachments must be delivered to, and be on file with the Quaker Valley Council of Governments, 343 Eicher Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237 on or before July 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. The envelope containing the bid must be sealed and plainly marked “Quaker Valley Council of Governments bid for residential collection, disposal, and processing of municipal solid waste, recyclable materials, household hazardous waste, and electronic waste”. A bid bond in favor of the Quaker Valley Council of Governments Participating Municipalities shall be submitted in the amount of 10% of the five-year total combined cost for all services and options for the participating municipalities, in accordance with the Instructions to Bidders. May 6, 2021 Quaker Valley Council of Governments (QVCOG) announces the appointment of a new Executive Director. Mr. Patrick M. Conners was appointed as the next Executive Director at a special meeting on May 5, 2021. Conners currently serves as the Assistant to the Township Manager in South Strabane Township in Washington County. He is familiar with the QVCOG and our communities, having previously served as the Assistant to the Manager in Edgeworth Borough, a member of the QVCOG. “I am excited to build on my past familiarity with QVCOG and getting to know each of the communities better,” said Conners. “Having worked previously in the region, I am aware of the potential of our communities working together. I am anxious to build on what we worked on when I was with Edgeworth.” Conners has a Master’s Degree in Public and Nonprofit Management from the University of Pittsburgh and was also a Local Government Academy Municipal Intern for North Fayette Township in 2015. Conners received a 9-0 affirmative vote from the QVCOG Board of Directors. “Patrick was the lead candidate given his knowledge of the region and ability to take our programs to the next level. We are pleased to have one of our own come back to help us continue the progress of the QVCOG.” said QVCOG President Jean-Sebastien Valois, a Supervisor for Kilbuck Township. Conners will start on May 26, 2021. He takes over for Susan G. Hockenberry who has served since 2016 and is leaving to start a coaching and consulting practice. Quaker Valley Council of Governments serves 15 municipalities along the Rt 65 corridor and facilitates multi-municipal efforts and implements efficient, cost-effective programs on behalf of its members. ### Quaker Valley COG is happy to announce that, in partnership with Pennsylvania Resources Council, the annual Hard to Recycle event at Quaker Valley High School is planned for July 10, 2021. QVCOG is happy to announce that working with our partner, Pennsylvania Resources Council, the popular Hard to Recycle event at Quaker Valley High School returns July 10, 2020. Individuals can drop off AT NO COST cell/home phones, computer towers and peripheral equipment (keyboards, laptops, mice, etc.), expanded polystyrene packaging material, microwave ovens and video game consoles/DVD players. PRC's Traveling Glass Recycling Bin will also be on site to accept glass bottles, jugs and jars. FOR A FEE, individuals can drop off televisions and computer monitors, printers, fluorescent tubes, small Freon appliances and tires (with and without rims).
